Gottman Method Couples Therapy
"The Gottman Method is an approach to couples therapy that includes a thorough assessment of the couple’s relationship and integrates research-based interventions based on the Sound Relationship House Theory. The goals of Gottman Method Couples Therapy are to disarm conflicting verbal communication; increase intimacy, respect, and affection; remove barriers that create a feeling of stagnancy; and create a heightened sense of empathy and understanding within the context of the relationship." So what does it actually look like?
The initial session is 1.5 hours with both of you together. The second and third sessions are with each of you individually for one hour. Subsequent sessions will be 1.5 hours with both of you together. You and your partner will both be invited to complete an online assessment prior to your individual sessions. This assessment process utilizes evidence-based measures to provide rich insights about your relationship and helps me determine how I can best work with you. You and your partner will receive a printout of your assessment summary to take home - this is a handy tool to refer to during and after our work together.
