Overview of Services

Service plans are unique to each individual and couple, however, I typically offer short-medium term counselling (3-15 sessions).  Longer-term services may be discussed on a case-by-case basis.  I use an eclectic approach drawing from several therapeutic modalities depending on your needs and preferences.  If you'd like to learn more about the specific approaches I use, please click here.  Together, we can focus on past issues, present concerns, or future aspirations.  Sometimes clients know exactly what their goals are and others are not sure what they wish to focus on.  Either way, you are welcome, your story is valuable, and I'm here to listen.

Areas of Practice

Picture
To ensure clients receive high quality service, it is important for mental health professionals to provide care within their areas of competence.  Based on my current knowledge, training, skills, and availability, I have been able to focus my practice to serve you better, whether that means we work together or I refer you to another provider with a specific area of expertise.  Please see below for details.
I currently work with adults and couples experiencing the following concerns:
  • Grief and loss
  • Life transitions
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Stress
  • Trauma
  • Self-esteem
  • Work/life balance
  • Personal growth and general wellness
  • Relationship challenges/conflict
  • Past affairs or betrayal
  • Communication issues
  • Improving friendship and intimacy
People seeking support primarily for the following concerns will be directed to more specialized care:
  • Formal assessments
  • Obtaining a new diagnosis
  • Family counselling
  • Child and youth counselling
  • Formal cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)
  • Addictions/substance use issues
  • Active or chronic suicidality
  • Parenting issues
  • Sex-related issues
  • Gender transitioning
  • Duplicate services (if you are already receiving counselling services from another party)

Confidentiality

Your confidentiality is an important aspects of counselling.  What we discuss will remain confidential; however, there are legal, ethical, and/or operational exceptions to this when I must disclose information to the appropriate authority and/or third party.  We will review these exceptions together.
Psychologists are required to write case notes for each session and maintain client files for a period of service plus ten years, after which time they are confidentially destroyed.  Services are provided with clients' consent, but clients may cancel services or request a referral at any time.
