Psychological Counselling Services for Individual Adults

Service plans are unique to each individual, however, I typically offer short-medium term counselling (1-15 sessions).  Longer-term services may be discussed on a case-by-case basis.  I use an eclectic approach drawing from several therapeutic modalities depending on your needs and preferences.  If you'd like to learn more about the specific approaches I use, please click here.  Together, we can focus on past issues, present concerns, or future aspirations.  Sometimes clients know exactly what their goals are and others are not sure what brings them in.  Either way, you are welcome, your story is valuable, and I'm here to listen.

Areas of Practice

I currently work with adults experiencing one or more of the following concerns:
  • Grief and loss
  • Life transitions
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Stress
  • Interpersonal challenges
  • Trauma
  • Self-esteem
  • Work/life balance
  • Personal growth
  • General wellness
People seeking support primarily for the following concerns will be directed to more specialized care:
  • Formal assessments or obtaining a new diagnosis
  • Couples/family counselling
  • Child/youth counselling
  • Formal cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)
  • Addictions
  • Suicidality
  • Parenting issues
  • Sex-related issues
  • Gender transitioning
  • Duplicate services (if you are already receiving counselling services from another party)

Confidentiality

In all cases, what we discuss remains confidential with the following legal and ethical exceptions:
  • During my registration process as a provisional psychologist, one or both of my supervisors will have access to my client files to ensure I am providing the best service possible;
  • If there is imminent risk of harm to you or another person;
  • If I believe a child is in need of protection;
  • If your clinical record is subpoenaed by a court of law (in Yukon, this includes Yukon Workers' Compensation Health & Safety Board and the Office of the Public Guardian & Trustee);
  • If you disclose you have experienced harm by another health professional;
  • If a complaint is made about me to the College of Alberta Psychologists and an investigation is initiated, then other registered psychologists, who are also bound by laws and ethics around confidentiality, may also have access to my files;
  • You request or consent to information being released to you or a third party; and/or
  • I am ordered by the government to release information about persons who have entered the premises in the event of potential community spread of COVID-19 linked to my office space.

Further info:  Psychologists are required to write case notes for each session and maintain client files for a period of ten years, after which time they are confidentially destroyed.  Services are provided with clients' consent, but clients may cancel services or request a referral at any time. As part of quality assurance, it is common practice for therapists to participate in clinical consultation with other health professionals to ensure you get the best care.  However, in this situation no identifying information is shared unless you provide consent.

Fees*

Sessions are $140 per standard clinical hour (50 minutes) and payment is required at the time of each session.  As of April 1st, 2021, my rate will be increasing to $150 per clinical hour.  I currently accept major credit cards, debit, and cash, and I will issue an e-receipt for each payment.  Clients paying out of pocket will be asked to leave credit card information on file.  A portion of psychological services is often covered by extended benefits, but it's important to confirm this with your provider in advance as this varies between plans.  Some third-party billing options may also be available.

* Cancellation Policy:  I reserve time and prepare for our session, and it is difficult to fill a spot on short notice.  Therefore, missed appointments and cancellations with less than 24-hours notice will automatically be charged at a rate of 50%.  When rescheduling, appointments are offered on a first-come-first-served basis until confirmed.
